Gents, I'm looking to update my soundcard and replace the headset that my wife mangled with the vacuum cleaner.

Any suggestions - Billy you always seem to have a soundcard that lets you hear people farting on the other side of the map?

I've ordered a pair of Logitech G35s. They cost US$104 but there is a US$25 rebate offer on amazon.com at the moment.

I was looking at a pair of Razer Megalodons, but they are still having support problems after a year on the market.

I'll work the sound card past the finance comittee after our trip to Alaska next month!

U don't need a soundcard with the g35's as they are usb and software driven.

I use some i picked up cheap and they are ok.

Waspy turned the damned chipmunk morphing on whilst i was away a few weeks back and i was chatting to some guys i know and they were like, wtf is this idiot.
Funny once i realised with them pissing themselves at my expense.

ROFLCOPTER

I was wondering why the hell you would want those morphing options if you were over the age of 9. Now I know.

So I can get 7.1 sound through the headset while running a 5.1 card?

Would upgrading my sound card give me any advantage at all?

Upgrading your soundcard for g35's is totally pointless as g35s don't use your soundcard.
They use logitechs g35 software which emulates 7.1. Does a reasonable job at it too.

The headphones/headset you buy for a soundcard would require 3.5mm (thereabouts) jacks to insert into the said souncard.

I'm happy with my g35.
Purists would argues this and that but they seem ok to me. And Waspy (with younger, better ears) hears clearly where people are moving in cod4.

I have G35s, I think they are a bit pricey for what they are.... Not dissapointed, they are certainly good.... No sound card required.

Thanks M2P.

I've been using the speakers on my monitor since I came to the US and there is nothing more infuriating than getting killed because someone snuck up behind you in a tank.

G35s arrived today.

Nice. The sound reproduction is excellent - the bass sounds great without being over the top.
