Hey guys. I have a job on atm which could require a faster rig to do it in (aww what a shame) I have $1500 to spend and need it rendering by this Monday 26th July.
So I was looking at built rigs. Need your feedback on these

Prob looking at the lot M3ds minus peripherals like monitor, keyboard etc...
Rendering is taxing on CPU not RAM. So the better the CPU you go the better and faster the rendering.
I would shy away from the AMD and in all honesty the best way you could go at this point of time is i7 (8 cores) whereas the one you are looking at are quad cores.

nice one Meds, will have gander around.

Point of note, i5's are basically quad cores (with some tweaks).
You could always go an i7 980x, that has 12 cores but just for the CPU you would be looking at $2k.

whoa, $2k way over my budget. Will see whats on offer.
ta again.
I agree with Medic even the I5 2.66 gig quad, is heaps faster for that type of work and it has the same die as a I7 so if you find it doesn't cut it in a couple of years you can update the cpu .
You need to find a hard drive case and power supply.
You should be able then get a I5 quad 4 gig ram motherboard and a decent graphics card with some change (maybe). Just remember that none of these systems will have an operating system, if you want more ram which is recommended for this type of work you will need a 64 bit operating system also.
I know you can get a i7 930 with mobo and ram for about $1400.... (comes with a GTX220 GFX card)
But you would need PSU, Case and hard drive.
Or I could sell you my PC......
Did anyone see the Harvey Norman catalogue? It had an acer PC for $6500 that was an i7 with 2TB drive and GTX480 GFX.... Nice PC but NOT $6500 worth. Could build that for $2700-$3200 (for everything)

Yeah I checked that out and laughed, hell they overcharge in those types of stores, what a rip off.

Was at Manukau Westfeild Mall last nite with one of the young guys me work with and Panisonic had 4x 42inch - 3D tv's with Blu-Ray player's and a Xbox360 playing Avatar game on it...... it was in the main walkway area by the Event movie entry......me try the 3D glasses and wow!!!...why better then 3D movies on the big screen. Clear as and very realistic 3D view
Cost all up around $6K give or take. But very nice......One day:PDT_Armataz_01_34[1
